LM guides are a common transmission and guiding device, widely used in various mechanical equipment. Their installation is crucial. This article will analyze how to install linear guides and explain it in simple terms.

1. Installation Steps of LM Guides

1.1 Preparation Before Installation

Before installing the linear guides, be sure to check the working surface of the installation machine to ensure it is free of burrs, impact marks, or dirt, and clean it as necessary. Also, if the linear guides are coated with anti-rust oil, it should be washed off. In addition, lubricating oil should be applied to the reference surface to prevent rusting.

1.2 Installation Process

  • After gently placing the LM guides on the base, do not fully tighten the mounting bolts so that the LM rail is gently pressed against the mounting surface. (The lateral reference surface of the base should be aligned with the marked side of the LM rail. Please use clean mounting bolts to secure the LM rolling guide. When inserting the mounting bolts into the mounting holes of the LM rail, ensure the bolt holes fit properly. Forcing the bolts in if the holes do not fit will reduce accuracy.)
  • Tighten the stop screws of the LM rail in sequence to ensure the rail is flush with the lateral mounting surface.
  • Using a torque wrench, tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque. (The tightening sequence of the LM rail assembly bolts is to start from the center and tighten sequentially towards the shaft end. This ensures stable accuracy.)

2. Assembly Technical Requirements

  • Rust prevention treatment must be applied to the slide rails and sliders before assembly. The slide rail surface must be free of scratches and grinding marks.
  • Check that the roughness and flatness of the mounting surface of the equipment to which the linear guide rail will be installed are above Ra3.2, and confirm that the screw holes match the screw holes of the LM guides.
  • Before installation, use a file and scraper to remove paint, machining residue, burrs, dirt, and other surface scratches from the mounting surface.

3. Precautions

  • Avoid disassembly

Do not disassemble the slider yourself to prevent foreign objects from entering the slider, affecting accuracy and shortening the service life of the LM guides. The guide rail should be placed on a suitable flat surface to avoid deformation.

  • Vertical Installation Precautions

If the linear guide rail is installed vertically, pay special attention to the slider slipping. If the slider accidentally slips, contact an authorized company immediately for assistance.

  • Operating Environment

Linear guides should be used in a clean environment with a protective cover to prevent dust and metal particles from entering and affecting product accuracy and lifespan. Avoid use in environments exceeding 80 degrees Celsius (except for heat-resistant specifications) to prevent damage to seals and shorten lifespan.

  • Operating Procedures

When installing linear guides, strictly follow the specifications. Avoid forceful impacts, do not strike the guides directly with a hammer, and do not transmit pressure through the rolling elements. Standard linear guide end caps are made of plastic; therefore, handle them with care to avoid impacts or knocks.

Summary

Proper installation of LM Guides is crucial for ensuring high precision and stable operation of equipment, significantly improving motion accuracy, extending guide life, and reducing maintenance costs.
